Chapter 1: The Story Begins on Sun Island
Sun Island was quiet and beautiful.
It rested in the blue waters near the Hawaiian Islands. Tall palm trees swayed gently in the wind. The waves moved slowly, as if they were whispering secrets.
Only a few people lived on the island.
But every evening, something special happened.
As the sun began to set, children from all around the island ran toward a small wooden hut near the shore.
They came smiling and laughing.
They came to listen.
Inside the hut lived the oldest man on Sun Island.
Everyone called him Elemakule.
Elemakule was a fisherman. His face was lined with age, and his beard was white like sea foam. But his eyes were bright and full of life.
Every morning, he went out to the sea in his small boat.
Every evening, he returned and told stories.
“Come, sit,” Old Elemakule said, as the children gathered around him.
The sky turned orange, then purple.
The fire crackled softly.
“Today,” Elemakule began, “I will tell you a story that is not just a story.”
The children leaned closer.
“It is real.”
They stopped breathing for a moment.
“This story,” he said, “connects our island… to a place far beyond the sea.”
“Where?” one child whispered.
Elemakule looked toward the dark ocean.
“To a forest,” he said slowly.
“A magical forest called Kallivana.”
The wind moved softly through the trees.
“And it also connects… to a boy from your world.”
“A boy?” the children asked.
Elemakule nodded.
“Yes.”
“He is not from this island.”
“He is not from the past.”
“He is from now.”
The children looked at each other in surprise.
“What is his name?” one of them asked.
Old Maro smiled.
“His name is Denver Joe.”
The waves crashed gently behind him.
“And his story,” Old Maro said, “is just beginning."
